European Physical Activity Guidelines

to tackle depressive symptoms

ROUTES TO IMPACT

PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATION

To manage, coordinate and develop the project.
 

To meet project objectives, ensure proper governance and quality of the project, according to to the EU commission instruction and grant agreement.

​

To evaluate the achievement of the project objectives.

​

To assess whether the project outcomes met the needs of partner member states and other stakeholders upon its final completion.

COMMUNICATION AND DISSEMINATION

To ensure effective communication of the project's progress and results, including internal and external communication.

​

To establish guidelines for partners to manage their communication and maximise the utilisation of project news, information, developments, and resources as individuals and as a consortium.

 

Specific objective 3

To disseminate the EUPAG-DS project at the local, national, and European levels by:

 

a) Engaging with interested institutions and organisations such as hospitals, universities, health centres, associations, and others.

​

 

c) Sharing the project outcomes, particularly the guidelines, through online channels of the project, partners, and interested institutions.

PLANNING PROPOSAL

To develop the planning proposal.
 

To outline the process for developing the guidelines.

​

To establish the key questions that will guide the review of existing systematic reviews and other guidelines.

​

Specific objective 1

 

To enhance understanding of the impact of physical activity and exercise on depressive symptoms in adults and provide an overview of systematic reviews examining the effects of physical activity and exercise on depressive symptoms and other health outcomes in adults by:

 

a) Formulating key questions regarding the effects of physical activity and exercise on depressive symptoms, quality of life, physical fitness outcomes, sleep quality, and other health-related outcomes in adults with depressive symptoms.

 

Specific objective 2

 

To develop the EUPAG-DS by:

 

a) Assembling a panel of experts in the field of depression and physical activity to evaluate the quality of existing evidence on the effects of physical activity and exercise on depressive symptoms in adults and determine if this information can be translated into recommendations.

DEVELOPMENT

Identify the existing systematics reviews to answer the key questions.
 

Proceed with other systematic reviews if needed.
 

Draft the guideline.
 

Conduct the external peer review.

 

Specific objective 1

 

a) Reviewing the literature, identifying the existing systematics reviews concerning the effects of physical activity and exercise on depressive symptoms.

​

 

b) Conducting the necessary systematics reviews to answer the established key questions if any key question was not addressed by the existing systematics reviews;

​

 

c) Providing the scientific field with an overview of the existing data regarding the effects of physical activity and exercise on depressive symptoms among adults.

​

Specific objective 2

 

To develop the EUPAG-DS by:

 

b) Formulating physical activity and exercise recommendations using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) framework.

 

c) Assessing the quality of the recommendations by involving a group of external experts and end-users.

PUBLISHING THE GUIDELINES

To finalise the production of  the final guidelines.

​

 

To produce the wall-chart (a version of the guidelines for end-users).

​

 

To translate the wall-chart into the main European languages.

​

Specific objective 2

To develop the EUPAG-DS by:

​

 

a) Assessing the quality of the recommendations by a panel of external experts and end-users.

​

 

b) Publishing the recommendations as official guidelines.

 

Specific objective 3

​

To disseminate the EUPAG-DS at the local, national, and European levels by translating the guidelines into the principal European languages.
